By Alon Calinao Dy: on June 26, 2014, a powerful tornado hit Brgy. Binaliw in Calbayog city at around 11 in the morning. The said municipality is near the towns of Sta. Margarita and Gandara, Western Samar.
According to some local people, the twister affected over 200 families in the region, and 10 people were slighty hurt in an unexpected weather event. But no one was reported to have died in the disaster.
Most homeless victims went to the evacuation center that local government designated to them for a short period of time. Others departed the area and temporarily stayed to their close relatives who sheltered them.
When a situation arises like this, let us extend a helping hand to the cyclone victims by providing them their basic needs if they don't have at all. Aside from material things, let us pray for their health and safety.
