Duterte Warning Over China's Aggressiveness in Disputed Territory

By Alon Calinao Dy: Mayor Rodrigo Duterte warns China to stop reclaiming the whole South China Sea especially the disputed territory on Spratly Islands, which causes tensions in the neighborhood.

China has been reported for massive reclamation activities on its neighboring countries like Vietnam, Japan,  Malaysia, and the Philippines, which could lead to possible waging war if China continued to extend its territory farther.

Duterte said, "China should not be permitted to use its military and economic might to bully smaller countries like Vietnam and the Philippines."

The mayor considers that under the partnership of its ally, The United States of America, that China's military giant would think twice before using their military forces reclaiming the whole South China Sea including the Spratly Islands.

Expressing alarm at China's building airstrip on the Fiery Cross Reef in the Spratly Islands, President Benigno Aquino III also stressed last Friday, " Siyempre, sa nalalapit na pagpunta natin sa Malaysia para sa Association of Southeast Asian Nations, uulitin natin ‘yung panawagan natin para mabuo na ‘yung tinatawag na Code of Conduct. 2002 pa kasi sinubukang gawin ‘yon, hindi nagawa."
