Is Road Widening of DPWH in Samar A Form of Corruption?

By Alon Calinao Dy: Estimated thousands of families will be affected if Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will extend another 15 sq. meter for a road-widening project in the region of Samar.

Residents said that they should not extend because a lot of people who have land titles and have good family income will be homeless.

Locals said that a road-widening project happened years back, but why it is happening again in the time of Philippine election.

The truth is, there are corrupt politicians and other high-ranking government officials who use this as one of the opportunities to generate a huge amount of money in preparation for their political campaign.

The problem is that they continue to destroy roads that are still accessible for commuter. They continue  to expand and expand that they do not think the feelings of land owners, for as long there is money involved.

There is a time lag in the implementation of this project because the DPWH will start the project only after the affected families have been relocated. Also, many families who will be affected, which most people believe that it should not be done since the road is wide enough for vehicles to pass or meet.

Besides, these affected families are not informal settlers since they have land titles and live nearly a decade now. In the past, there was a significant government spending on public sector, but where are all the projects now that supposed people enjoy.
