CBCP, CHR Allegedly Use Students For Human Rights Campaign
By Alon Calinao Dy: Friends and classmates of Jefferson Bunuan, a B.S. Criminology student of Eulogio Amang Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology in Sampaloc, Manila, protested over his killing by the authorities in a drug buy bust operation in Pandacan, Manila, last July 18.
The students called the attention of Duterte administration to stop unjust and senseless killings to solve the country's problems of criminality, corruption and illegal drugs in the country.
A 20-year-old Jefferson Bunuan was killed during the police operations who caught suspected drug users and pushers.
Schoolmates of Bunuan said that this is a brutal and inhumane way to fight the rampant proliferation of illegal drugs. They said that poverty is the root cause of drug addiction and authorities should go after drug lords and pushers.
However, some reports also say that Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) and Commission on Human Rights (CHR) are the ones who allegedly use these young students for Human Rights campaign.
I personally believe that President Rodrigo Duterte is doing the right thing when he already warned drug lords, drug users, drug pushers, and those people who are involved to stop their illegal activities. It's not the act of killing, but you need to respect the rule of law. It's as simple as that.
