Corrupt Politicians And Government Employees Don't Like Freedom of Information Bill (FOI)
By Alon Calinao Dy: President Rodrigo Roa Duterte came out with a new Executive Order (EO) so that everyone can access to information and to prevent corrupt government officials and employees from hiding their hidden wealth to Filipinos who want to know the truth.
Reports shows that the President already signed the FOI as this is part of his good governance and anti-corruption campaign for public officials and government employees if Filipinos want to access necessary information on matters of public interest.
I don't think there is a big problem having this FOI bill. It is good for the country since everyone has a right to know the truth and to know if there are corrupt officials and employees in government agencies.
This bill should have been passed a couple of years ago, but unfortunately some government officials both in the House of Representatives and the Senate have opposed to this idea. And so I think something is not right.
With only less than a month before President Duterte will have his The State of the Nation Adress (SONA), he accomplished things that seemed impossible for his critics but possible for his supporters.
I believe that the real change has just begun, and president Duterte continues to do excellent works for the Filipinos in order to have a transparent government. Now, I thank our beloved president because it's a lot easier for ordinary Filipinos to access government records than the past administrations.
