Change is Coming: Filipinos Can Now Wear Their Precious Gold And Stones in Metro Manila
By Alon Calinao Dy: If before Filipinos in Metro Manila are advised by police officers to take extra care of their valuable things especially those expensive ones, now the law enforcers are confident that they can protect and maintain the public safety of the people and can decrease the number of thieves in the national capital region.
Some law enforcers however said Filipinos should be cautious and responsible for their costly things in order to avoid being victimized by these street muggers and hold-uppers.
Most Filipino probably know the theme: change is coming. I talked this morning to a taxi driver who is a die-hard supporter of president-elect Rodrigo Duterte and he said to me that he felt the real change in the country not only because Filipinos have a tough-talking president but a true leader whose "actions speak louder than words."
That's right. It's true that safety is everyone's responsibility but Filipinos have probably been fooled by past administration that safety among commuters and students in Metro Manila is ensured when in fact it's too risky for them, because some corrupt law enforcers themselves have disciples who are known as hold-uppers, willing to kill victims.
President-elect Rodrigo Duterte's tough speech said that "I will kill you," referring to those dirty cops who are involved in drug trade and roberries. Because of this, Duterte was named by his critics as a "punisher." Yes, a punisher to those people who violate the rule of law.
Now, from what I understand, many drug pushers who usually commit criminal activities such as robbery and pickpocketing in Metro Manila surrendered to the authorities. That means Duterte perfectly suited to the name as punisher for the criminals but a true human rights defender for people who want to live a safe life in this country.
