By Alon Calinao Dy: Due to the strong campaign and President Duterte's advocacy against illegal drugs, drug users and pushers have surrendered to Ormoc City government led by their police department and Mayor Richard Gomez.
This would be the fourth attempts of actor Richard Gomez when he failed to win for senator in 2007, congressman in 2010, and and mayor in 2013. Fortunately, Gomez won his mayoral bid under Nationalist People's Coalition.
Mayor Gomez identified who were the drug users and pushers. He said to those drug addicts to stop using illegal substance as he strongly believed that President Duterte will fulfill his promise to end the issues of illegal drugs in the Philippines.
Mayor Gomez and others asked these drug addicts to tell their protectors and drug suppliers. Aside from that, they also identified those drug addicts who have pending cases involving prohibited drugs.
A lot of netizens appreciated the effort of mayor Gomez, but there were those who said to do it without cameras rolling on them. They have to do it because its their duties and responsibilities as public servants.
In my opinion, I don't think there's something wrong with that. Mayor Gomez and his company have just proved that they followed President Rodrigo Duterte's advocacy to fight illegal drugs in the country. I hope everyone will help the new government in this battle for everyone's brighter future.
