By Alon Calinao Dy: St. Jude, often called as Jude Thaddaeus, is one of the twelve apostles of Jesus and a patron saint for 'The hopeless and the despaired.' Most people correlate him to Judas Iscariot who betrayed and kissed Jesus prior to his Crucifixion, Death, and Resurrection.
To everyone's knowledge, St. Jude Thaddaeus and Judas Iscariot are not the same person. According to some scholars, St. Jude and apostle Simon the Zealot suffered martyrdom 65 AD in Beirut. They were persecuted because of their faith for Jesus. After his death, many devotees felt the powerful intercessions of St. Jude. While Judas Iscariot was the apostle of Jesus who did not die a martyr's death. According to New Testament, he committed suicide by hanging himself.

The National Shrine of Saint Jude Thaddeus,
J.P Laurel Street, San Miguel Manila, Philippines,
Near to the Malacanang Palace
I remember I visited this shrine several times, before I took the Philippine Nursing Licensure last June 2005; it was followed by international exams (CGFNS and NCLEX). Through St. Jude, Jesus answered my prayers. Remember, he is the patron saint for 'The hopeless and the despaired.' For me, he is the patron saint of all students and examinees who want to be successful in their studies and future careers.
Now, I visit him again for another prayers and for a deep gratitude for all the blessings that I have received from our Lord Jesus.
Prayer Before Lighting The Candle:
Father in Heaven
The Light of Jesus
Has dispersed the darkness
Of hatred and sin
Accept this candle
And let the light your truth
Guide me to your kingdom
Inflame my heart with your grace
Keep me in the radiance of your truth
Fill my heart with your divine love
And please help me in my needs
( mention your petition)
Grant this
Through Christ our Lord and the
Intercession of St. Jude Thaddeus
Amen.
