By Alon Calinao Dy: Comedienne Ethel Booba, known as Ethel Gabison in real life, has posted a comment about the viral photo of Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla after they voted on Election Day, May 9, at their respective precints.
Booba clarified that it is legal to take photos when it is a blank ballot. According to her, "obviously and very openly they showed their shaded ballots."
Teen king and queen Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo, one of the most popular loveteams and also known as Kathniel, are paid celebrities who endorsed LP standard bearer and former DILG secretary Mar Roxas.
Outraged netizens said that the teen idols violated the rules and regulations of Commission on Elections (COMELEC). They also suspected that Kathryn Bernardo wearing a Mar Roxas baller ID during and after voting, even though they were reportedly first-time voters.
Netizens said that "no one is above the law" and "rules are rules." Every voter should abide to the rule of law whether you are rich or poor, there is no exemption to the rule. A violation is a violation.
Ethel Booba is one of the concerned citizens who expressed her disapproval to this Kathniel photo in a strong manner. As per COMELEC rules, taking with the shaded ballot is strictly prohibited and may face charges.
After the incidence, COMELEC spokesperson James B. Jimenez tried to talk to Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo.
Though there were many report election violations on social media, Jimenez reminded the public to stop taking photos of ballots to avoid legal charges.
