Reasons Why The Beautiful Samar Remains As One Of The Poorest Provinces in the Philippines

By Alon Calinao Dy: I admit Samar has many beautiful places to offer for the tourists as one can see the stunning surroundings in the Facebook page of I Love Samar. But, why is it we are poor in Samar?

I have read a lot of comments from our kababayan in Samar and mostly blame the problem to our political leaders whom they considered as crooks. Perhaps, that is one of the reasons why Samar is still poor today, but I still don't understand why it seems these voters who complain about corruption in their respective places let these politicians stay in power if they are corrupt.

It's so sad to know that according to the latest report, Eastern Samar, Western Samar and Northern Samar are included in the top 10 poorest provinces in the Philippines despite the fact that Samar is a beautiful place and rich in natural resources.

Another problem that I see why Samar is poor is that it is not given that needed promotion and attention by the past administrations. Even the issues of corruption, the Philippine media and TV networks have nothing to say against our corrupt public servants.

I think it is about time that residents in Samar should tell all their problems to Duterte administration whose primary intention is to solve crime, corruption and illegal drugs in the country. Let the public servants serve us well without any corruption from the public funds and not give our loyalty to them.

This serves as a reminder to all employees in local government units that our loyalty still belongs to the people especially to the poor and not to the mayors, congressmen and governors. Our new president-elect Rodrigo Duterte want us all to work properly and avoid being caught with crime, corruption and illegal drugs. If found guilty, one should pay the price and that's death penalty by hanging.

If there's no crime, corruption and illegal drugs in the Philippines especially in Samar, I think poverty is no longer a big concern of the local people as there are lot of changes when many capitalists are going to invest their money in the province of Samar. So more jobs and more investments I have seen under Duterte administration.

Education and health are the top priorities of Duterte administration especially to the poor who can't afford the hospital bills and school expenses. In this way, graduates will find jobs suitable for them and will not allow themselves to be tempted to vote buying during elections in the Philippines.
