By Alon Calinao Dy: President Rodrigo Roa Duterte believes that the outcome of peaceful talks with China is a serious matter and that he called former presidents of the Philippines to help him over the South China Sea (West Philippine Sea) dispute.
For the first in history that the current President did this and consulted first former presidents namely: Fidel Ramos, Joseph Estrada, Gloria Arroyo, and Benigno Simeon Aquino III for a National Security Council meeting.
In my opinion, the reason why I believe this is a serious matter because every Filipino is affected if in case the result of peaceful talks would not go well as everyone's expectations and the future of the country lies in here.
Filipinos knew that China rejected the arbitral tribunal's ruling in favour to the Philippines as China insisted for historical claims. Now, everyone is praying and hoping that both China and Philippines can settles their border issues as soon as possible to reduce tensions between two countries.
President Duterte has called Filipinos to have a national unity for peace and order in the Philippines. He also pleaded for peace against rebel groups as he believed that war is not going to end the violence in the country.
