Davao Mayor Rodrigo Duterte: A Leader With An Iron Fist

By Alon Calinao Dy: The much-admired mayor, Rodrigo Duterte, is recognized as a leader with an iron fist. Davaoeños are quite aware that the Philippines has a lot of Filipinos who have no respect and trust among politicians.

When we think about politics, it is a dirty game with scores of killings and rampant corruption. But Davaoeños know Honorable Mayor Duterte is a different politician than others since he is willing to sacrifice himself for the good of his people, especially his areas of responsibility.

I constantly remember what Davao Mayor said that "if you are good, you probably live here. But if you are bad, your life ends here." Of course we totally want to live with peace and order in our beloved city. 

But if there is a group of people who attempt to destroy the relative peace and order, I think a leader with an iron fist is the answer to protect the best interest of the majority of people.

The late Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew has successfully put a fright in the hearts of criminals that they have no place in Singapore if they do not abide by the rules and regulations of the government. But he is the much-admired leader because he put a firm discipline for every Singaporean.

Just ask yourself this question, who wouldn't want peace and orderliness in their place? I am certain you would say those criminals and corrupt people. 

Under the Duterte rule, Davaoeños strongly believe that their Mayor will do everything to protect his people and sustain his good reputation as a great leader.

Duterte now enjoys a reputation as a hard working leader and tough-talking mayor who is committed stopping corruption and fight crime. 

Most vocal Davaoeños want their mayor to run for president in 2016 as they know that it is about time that Filipinos need a leader with an iron fist and strong rules in life.

Why Are Some Politicians Being Afraid of Davao Mayor Duterte?

By Alon Calinao Dy: Many Dabawenyos know that the much-admired Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, also known as "Digong," is a man of honor. 

For instance, If he says that he is going to close the congress because of rampant corruption in the country, he will do that no matter what it takes as he prioritizes the welfare of the nation and the people.

If you happen to meet every Dabawenyo on the street, each person is proud of their mayor. People have so much respect for Digong since he is against all the criminal activities within his areas of responsibility.

Duterte is a man of principles. If you possess a strong principle in life, then it is less likely that you are going to be dictated by rich and powerful people in the country. For example, late Ferdinand Marcos is one of the presidents who has a strong-willed rule.

Some people even question his credibility being an iron fist. They doubt him if he can make the Philippines not only a peaceful nation but a better nation in terms of the economy, and so forth.

Almost all Dabawenyos said that "he is the best alternative presidential candidate in 2016," which I believe he is. People should not underestimate what he is capable of.

To give you a brief idea, Duterte was born March 28, 1945 in Maasin, Leyte. His father became a governor in Davao and his mother was a school teacher. His parents raised him well to become a person who always sticks to the truth and what is right and so, until now he has all these important values he learned from his family.
