By Alon Calinao Dy: There are reports that the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Kim Henares is planning to run for senator in 2016.
If the report is said to be true, does this mean that she will compete against the pound-for pound king Manny Pacquiao if ever the Filipino boxing champion will run for senator next year?
Henares became a popular and instant celebrity when she lodged a case against Pacquiao, and Pacquiao bank accounts in the Philippines have been frozen that caused an alarm to all high taxpayers.
Supporters of Henares say that they want her to become a senator in 2016. As a matter of fact, Jean Wee, a loyal supporter of Henares believes that the BIR commissioner rightfully belongs to the senate and that Filipinos are obliged to pay their tax responsibilities.
Yet, a lot of Filipinos became angry to the commissioner when she always reminded Pacquiao about his tax obligations, especially when Pacquiao fought Bradley, Rios, and Algieri a couple of months ago. For Pacquiao's fans, she was just one of the distractions of the boxing champion.
Now if BIR commissioner Kim Henares is sincere in what she does, she will go after to those corrupt officials in the government not the People's Champ who always puts his life in danger to give honor to our country.
