Mayweather-Pacquiao Fight is Set on May 2, 2015

By Alon Calinao Dy: Mark your calendar for the upcoming fight between Mayweather Jr., and Pacquiao on May 2, 2015. The two pound-for-pound kings are going to face each other after Mayweather agreed to fight Pacquiao during a recent Showtime interview in San Antonio on his desired date.

I'm sure everyone has been awaiting for this mega-bout and now my prediction is coming true. Mayweather, once again, put a blame to Pacquiao's Promoter Bob Arum why the battle did not happen long time ago. He further added that the Showtime network is the best means to promote this biggest fight.

I don't care any longer whether it's Showtime or HBO network just as long as the mega-fight is certain. To me, a true pound-for-pound king does not add fuel to the flames and is willing to make the fight happen no matter what. A fighter who is true to his words with no more excuses.

Now I am actually happy to know that Mayweather calls out Pacquiao. This simply means that he really wants to fight the Filipino congressman. Although this much-awaited fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao is the battle of the ages, I nevertheless think that this is the richest boxing competition of all time. I'm sure my parents in Vegas are excited about the latest news in boxing. So enjoy.

Who is a true pound-for-pound king?

According to veteran boxers Ricky Hatton and Juan Manuel Marquez and former sparring partner Amir Khan, Mayweather is going to win the match against Pacquiao. He is a heavy favorite boxer than Pacman. 

Mayweather and Pacquiao are not exactly in their primes, but I'm sure this fight is going to end the saga between the two best boxers in this era. I'm going to predict that Pacquiao is better than Mayweather and I believe he's going to dominate in this competition.

I'm afraid of only one thing if Pacquiao won't knock Mayweather out, the judges would pick Mayweather over Pacquiao on the scorecards.

Hey, Manny Pacquiao Basher!

By Alon Calinao Dy: First things first, I don't understand why there are some Filipinos continue to bash Manny Pacquiao despite his great feat in our country. I don't understand why they can't be happy for someone's success. Instead of bashing Pacquiao, why don't Filipinos make him an inspiration and try their best to be well-off?

If you can't control your mouth then shut the f-ck up. Manny didn't ask your opinion, how could you comment such a stupid point of view?

I acknowledge that it is your basic right to hold an opinion. But it appears to me you misuse or abuse it. Pacquiao has given you a chance to be one of his million friends, but you blow it away. Please understand that you can have a thousand friends, but few of them are genuine. It is better to have one friend if you know you can trust that person for the remainder of your life.

From my own perspectives, Filipinos should be respectful for every word they say. Keeping control of bad temper and think twice before you say anything will save yourself at the end of the day. You just reveal your true character. I have been stating this over and over again that in order to be happy with yourself, you need to be happy with someone's success, and in order to avoid jealousy, throw your bitterness away.

I have recognized some people as rich as Pacquiao, but they humbled themselves. I don't see why those who have in life they are the ones who have more humility than those who actually haven't. There are many people like this in the Philippines. But even with all that, I still believe that people can change.

I am a Manny Pacquiao fan, but if Pacquiao has made inappropriate action for his fans, I won't tolerate it. I admit Filipinos are great for their hospitality, respect and caring for others. Pacquiao is a true Filipino pride. His richness comes from arduous work and devotion to God Almighty. It is not an instant success. His money did not come from government funds, so it only right to pay our respects to him.

Alon Calinao Dy's Prediction: Algieri vs. Pacquiao

By Alon Calinao Dy: I know Chris Algieri (20-0) is a tough warrior. I know he has reach advantage over Manny Pacquiao. But he is not going to get the World Boxing Organization (WBO) Welterweight Title from the only eight-division world champion and fighter of the decade congressman Manny Pacquiao. I think I'm sure about it.

Chris Algieri defeated Ruslan Provodnikov last June to be Pacquiao's challenger for the WBO welterweight crown. Not bad. I'm impressed. Although I now give him credit for that, I still believe that he has no chance to beat Pacquiao at The Venetian Macao in Macau, China, on Nov. 22. 

As always, this is just a hype to make boxing fans around the world believe that he can actually stop the pound-for-pound king.

But still, it is an exciting fight for both boxers Pacquiao and Algieri, as they are true warriors. I have great respect for them because they have come this far. I mean Algieri has reached this far since this is the biggest bout of his career. Now he has the opportunity to show the world that he can defeat the Filipino boxing champion.

I understand I undestimated Algieri for this upcoming battle. In every fight, there's a real threat. But this is what I see -- NO REAL DANGER! I predict all the scorecards would be in favor of Pacquiao. If the bout would not end by a knockout, then it would be an unanimous decision from the judges. Whoever is a busy fighter and throws a lot of deadly punches, has the chance to get the belt.

As my mind can be as crystal clear as water, I believe Pacquiao is going to win this competition. No doubt about it! Period.

I just hope after this fight, Pacquiao would try everything in his power to challenge the undefeated American boxer Floyd Mayweather, Jr. I am still optimistic that these elite boxers would face each other for the love of boxing and fans around the globe.

Both global icons Pacquiao and Mayweather have unfinished business. I guess the Filipino boxing superstar is going to retire in 2015 because he will run a national office in the coming Philippine Senatorial Election in 2016. Although he can still defend his crown, everything has come to an end. The world of politics would be his last vision and mission to serve his countrymen.

Manny Pacquiao Thinks Algieri is No Match

By Alon Calinao Dy: Manny Pacquiao is going to face the challenger and undefeated American boxer Christopher Algieri, who defeated Ruslan Provodnikov three months ago, for the WBO welterweight title at the Venetian Macao in Macau, China, on November 22.

Algieri believes that he has the physical advantage than Pacquiao. He is taller and five years younger than the Filipino boxing champ. The American fighter thinks he can beat Pacquiao because he has high endurance and power to neutralize the speed of former pound-for-pound king.

Pacquiao, on the other hand, is very confident that he can defend his WBO welterweight crown. He even joined as a Kia Motors' playing coach because he is self-assured that he is going to win this battle. He has fought 395 professional rounds while Algierie has only fought 122. 

Algieri has been vocal about his chance to derail the career of Filipino congressman. Although anything can happen in the ring, Pacquiao is aware that every opponent is considered as a real threat. And also, this is a big opportunity for the American boxer, but Pacquiao won't let his avid supporters down. Pacquiao himself knows that there's no absolute peril. 

So again, on Nov. 22, 2014, let's see if Algieri has what it takes to be the global boxing icon. If he wins this biggest fight of his career, he can join the same league of elite boxers like Floyd Mayweather Jr., Manny Pacquiao, Miguel Cotto, and others.

Pacquiao wants to prove to everybody that he is not only the king in the world of boxing, but he has what it takes to be a good player if not the best player in PBA. 

Manny is Manny, I mean he has a lot of discipline when it comes to training whether it is basketball or boxing. No one can stop his long-time dream to join in PBA. Not even his wife Jinkee or Mommy D.

Many Filipino Basketball fans are still skeptical about this since he has upcoming fight against undefeated boxer and tough challenger Chris Algieri for the WBO welterweight on Nov. 22 at the Venetian Macao in China.

I have no objection for Pacquiao to enter the PBA draft or become a PBA player officially, just as long as he would not take for granted his boxing career because that is where he excels as a world-class athlete. Although Pacquiao has some basketball moves, most PBA fans still believe that he ain't got a chance against the veteran PBA star players like James Yap and Mark Caguiao.

Will Mayweather Fight Pacquiao in 2015?

By Alon Calinao Dy: Floyd Mayweather Sr. wants the fight to happen between Manny Pacquiao and his son  in May next year. This is due to lack of PPV numbers from the boxing fans to see Mayweather Jr. fight opponents who are not at the same level of the Filipino boxing champ.

Although Freddie Roach and his new trainee Miguel Cotto are interested for a rematch, they prefer that Mayweather-Pacquiao saga would come to an end since the world is impatiently waiting for them. That is the fight that everyone loves to watch; therefore, expect for the boycott in the rematch between Mayweather and Maidana.

However,  the biggest fight is not going to happen this year since Mayweather and Pacquiao have different opponents to face in their boxing careers. It is clear that Mayweather's camp wants to negotiate now to Pacquiao's Top Rank promoter Bob Arum since there are no credible boxers would make 2 million buys. Indeed, it seems odd because the world had asked this super-fight a few years ago. I think it is less appealing now to the boxing fans around the world. I don't know if they will still believe in this hype.

According to some reports, Mayweather now realizes that Pacquiao is going to leave boxing and is going to different direction, as he plans to run for senator or vice-president in his country. I guess the American boxer ponders how many millions of US dollars he's going to lose if the mega-fight will not come to fruition.  He now softens his stance about the possibility of the fight. Perhaps, he now feels that his legacy is not complete if he doesn't fight Pacquiao.

There is one fight for Mayweather Junior in order for him to secure his legacy and retire in the sweet science. He will not be called as the greatest fighter in this era if  he will continue to hide. A fight against pacquiao is a win-win situation, but he is not sure whether he will prevail or go home with a loss.

I have been following Mayweather's career over the years and I would say he was genius to defeat his former opponents. I know he fought tough rivals in the past and schooled them like amateur boxers. I would agree for that. However, I don't think he had faced someone like Pacquiao. I don't think it is easy to beat the toughness of the Filipino congressman.

It is true that he easily defeated Marquez in their last meeting. But even Marquez had admitted before that Pacquiao was like a beast who delivered many lethal punches in different angles. Just imagine how Pacquiao would perform against Mayweather if ever they meet in the ring. I believe this is one of the reasons why Marquez is now avoiding Pacquiao because he is not sure whether he can still beat Pacquiao by knockout. 

Top Rank Promoter Bob Arum had already offered Marquez several times a great deal of money, but the Mexican fighter did not want to fight Pacquiao.  For him, his business for Pacquiao is over. Marquez wants his fans to remember him as the second fighter who defeated Pacquiao by knockout. I don't think it is the best move for the Mexican warrior. Where is the word of COURAGE  there if he avoids Pacquiao for a fifth bout?

Mayweather and Marquez need to fight Pacquiao. It is plain and simple. The Filipino boxing icon is ready anytime, anywhere. Let's forget about the money. Let's talk about a true legacy. I think they need Pacquiao as much as Pacquiao needs them. I don't think Mayweather's legacy is safe if he continues to avoid the Filipino boxing champ. This is the same with Marquez. He needs to fight Pacquiao for a fifth time since most fight fans believe that it was a 'lucky punch' that beat Pacquiao. I guess these two veteran boxers would make a very interesting competition for Pacquiao. Let's make this happen!

Manny Pacquiao To Run For Senator in 2016

By Alon Calinao Dy: An eight-division world champion and fighter of the decade Manny Pacquiao is likely to run for a national position in the Philippines in 2016. Does it mean that he will quit in boxing? Does it mean he will no longer go after Floyd Mayweather Jr. for supposedly the biggest fight of the century? Does it mean that boxing fans are going to stop watching the sport when Pacquiao finally retires?

I think all these things are possible to happen in the future. Pacquiao has increasingly been interested in politics for the last two years. That is why many prominent Filipino politicians are courting him to be on their political alliance. Most people expect him to be under Vice-president Jejomar Binay's banner.

Although some Filipino critics discourage Pacquiao's ambition to run for senate in 2016, majority of Filipino people still want him in the office. I am one of those who will definitely vote him. It is not that I want him to retire now in boxing, but there are numerous reasons why I want him to win the senatorial race in 2016.

Firstly, Pacquiao is known to tell the truth all the time and is honest about his plans in boxing and politics. He doesn't deny anything that he won't run for a national position after he is done in boxing. Running for senator is a first step towards Presidency in the coming years. I just couldn't understand why Filipino people would hesitate to vote Pacquiao if they had voted Revilla, Enrile, Estrada, and other actors in the senate over a few years ago.

Secondly,  Pacquiao has strong principles in life and always sticks to what he thinks is right for the people. For instance, we could see this commitment during his past interviews in different boxing networks, wherein he bravely challenged Mayweather to man up to fight him because that is what fight fans want to happen in the sweetscience.

Or else, Mayweather just needs to shut up.

Thirdly, Pacquiao is a true inspiration for all Filipinos. Not only here in Asia, but also all over the world. Boxing fans know that. They are aware with Pacquiao's humble beginnings as he continues to show good examples to many people, particularly to the young children of this generation. It simply shows that to define the real success in life it is the genuine faith in God. That's why a lot of people doubt him if his focus in boxing has gone since he has so many distractions around him. In fact, Pacquiao has assured his avid supporters that his journey in boxing will continue even though he is currently in politics.

There are so many things why Filipino voters should trust Pacquiao not only in boxing, but also in politics. As most people know, Pacquiao is willing to help everyone.  He is not a real Santa Claus, but he continues to donate his hard-earned money to many charitable institutions. That's how he loves Filipinos.

I don't think we see another Pacquiao in the years to come. There is no single doubt in terms of his sincerely to fight corruption and poverty in the Philippines. Apart from this, other politicians that I am going to put in my ballot are Duterte and Boy Abunda. Why do I say this? If Duterte runs for President in 2016, a big sorry for criminals or law violators. He's known for peace and order in Davao City. Another prospective candidate is Boy Abunda, who graduated from my Alma Mater Seminario De Jesus Nazareno, the most disciplined school in the country.

I strongly believe Pacquiao, Duterte, and Abunda would make a huge contribution to economic success in the Philippines. If these people will be elected in 2016, I don't think Filipino people will ever suffer again from poverty and corruption. 

Who Will Be Remembered Between Pacquiao and Mayweather Jr. in Boxing History?

By Alon Calinao Dy: Boxing has become one of the most popular sports in the world today despite the emerging popularity of other sports like MMA and wrestling. Now, many of us know the names of Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. Some people would even say that Pacquiao can easily defeat Mayweather due to his aggressive nature, while others believe that Mayweather would beat Pacquiao due to his quickness and accuracy. Of course, this mega-fight between the two pound-for-pound fighters in the sweet science should have happened long time ago, but unfortunately the bout did not take place for some reasons.

The first name that comes to my mind when I think about a boxer who has excellent defensive styles is none other but Mayweather. On the other hand, I consider Pacquiao as a fighter who has superb offensive skills when it comes to breaking down the walls of his opponents. I do believe that Mayweather and Pacquiao are meant to face each other in the ring soon. It’s quite interesting that lots of people are still intrigued about this fight, asking who is the better fighter of these two pugulists.

The sport of boxing has to go through an immense struggle for the reason that boxers today do not actually challenge themselves for looking tough opponents, as they become cherry pickers and business minded-people. Most of the time their trusted promoters are the ones who decide everything. For instance, although Pacquiao has the final say and is willing to fight Mayweather anytime and anywhere, his Top Rank Promoter Bob Arum is also a problem because has to have another opponent for the Filipino boxing champ if he sees Mayweather’s camp has no intention to make a deal.I mean there’s no initiative for both camps to wait for this fight to happen.

Of course, to be fair, I do not want to blame Golden Boy Promotion for this alone, owing to the fact that it all depends upon Mayweather to take the challenge and promoter Bob Arum to settle their issues in the past. It’s not Pacquiao’s fault that until now we are not having the dream match that everyone loves to see. Also, it’s always Mayweather’s decision to go for a green light since no one can influence his plan right now.

Muhammad Ali, Joe Louis, Sugar Ray Robinson, Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler, Mike Tyson, Jack Dempsey, Julio Cesar Chavez, Rocky Marciano, Henry Armstrong, Willie Pep, Lennox Lewis, and other fighters are considered as one of the greatest boxers of all time. Among the greats mentioned above, the question is, where is the place of Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao in boxing history? This is one of the most controversial questions in the 21st Century by millions of boxing fans around the world. Most people are saying that all their credits will go to Pacquiao since he is not afraid to fight anyone including Mayweather Jr. Thus, he will be remembered as one of the best and exciting boxers in the sport of boxing.

Promoters Should Push Mayweather Jr. versus Pacquiao Fight

By Alon Calinao Dy: Floyd Mayweather is considered by his fans a highly talented boxer with zero defeat at the present, while Manny Pacquiao is an eight-division world champion who has five losses, but considered by most boxing fans as the best fighter of this era.

The only way to settle this issue between the Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions is to take away the pride and competition between these two big companies. I think this is one of the reasons why fans are not getting the fight they want to see in boxing. The best way to have a harmonious relationship is to talk and don’t point out fingers at each other. Do this for the love of boxing. In this way, more and more people will support the sport of boxing.

It is true that it is much easier to get angry at Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Manny Pacquiao for the reason that that they both have huge followers. One thing that I do not understand is that why fans have no control for this mega-fight, but only their promoters who decide what is best for their fighters.

Sometimes it is hard to easily forget the misunderstandings in the past. I am saying that both camps should have an open table and give honest feedback. In this way, they will be able to come up with a contract. I don’t like it when both promoters are having alibis why they can’t work together. It says about how genuine they are if they can have an agreement.

Until now, various boxing sites have different speculations about who is the better fighter between Mayweather and Pacquiao. I know I just can’t throw punches at Floyd or Manny, but let’s keep it real and wait for the right moment thay these boxing champions would finally face each other for the sake of boxing. I know promoters should be the ones to push this biggest bout, and they must listen to the cries of millions of boxing fans around the world.

Boxing Fans Have Spoken For Mayweather-Pacquiao Fight

By Alon Calinao Dy: We all want Mayweather-Pacquiao fight to happen anytime soon. We really want this bout that we often have arguments who is the best fighter between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao. Boxing fans are clamoring for this biggest fight for many years now, and even boxing legend Muhammad Ali called out Mayweather Jr. to accept the challenge from Pacquiao’s camp.

Yes, both undefeated Mayweather and eight-division world champion Pacquiao have the abilities to bring boxing back into a leading sport among others if they step to the ring. As boxing fans, we hope to see these two most exciting pugulists in the same ring together.

According to one boxing fan “The fact is that this fight should have happened four years ago.” Another fan blamed Pacquiao for fight not happening. He pointed out that “Manny only wants to fight Floyd when he is set to fight someone else.” However, still another fan quickly defended Pacquiao by saying “Can we stop with the Floyd excuses? I saw exactly why Floyd Mayweather keeps running from Manny Pacquiao because he kept running from Maidana during his last bout.” Yet another fan said “They should put their differences aside and put on the fight that all boxing fans want to see…”

There you go, we have heard fight fans about their desires to make this bout happen. As well all know, Mayweather Jr. and Pacquiao have fought the best of the best in the boxing world over the years. They have completely dominated the competition that fans from around the world want to see them fight each other. Also, boxing analysts believe that these two boxing icons are too quick and too strong that none of the rising boxing superstars can compete with them at the highest level.

Now, the person stopping this fight to happen is NO ONE. I believe we cannot put all the blame to Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Manny Pacquiao alone. The blame is on us. Let’s admit, everyone wants this fight but not all are happy about it. If fight fans should come together and BOYCOTT their boxing shows if they announce to fight different opponents, well, I guess we are forcing them to step into the ring and face each other.

In boxing, there are so many speculations why the super boxing match is not happening. But, have we asked ourselves if we are really helping a bad situation? I think the only way to do this is to be true with our intentions. As I mentioned, if we want the fight so badly, let’s snub pay-per-view (PPV) boxing events of Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao. In this way, they will be able to know how serious we are.

Boxing Aficionados Pressure Marquez or Mayweather To Fight Pacquiao

By Alon Calinao Dy: It is now a trending news in different boxing forums that avid supporters of eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao are asking their idol to choose either Juan Manuel Marquez or Floyd Mayweather, Jr. as his next opponent, for these fighters will certainly bring excitement in the world.

Until now, there is no confirmation if it will come to fruition in the following months. Boxing fans are eagerly waiting for the latest update from Top Rank Bob Arum, a former US attorney in New York in the tax division and a founder of Top Rank Promotions.

Arum is still trying to convince Marquez till now to fight Pacquiao for a fifth time in exchange for a great deal of money. However, the Mexican warrior is making it hard to seal the deal and seems he is not interested to sign the contract.

Does it mean Arum will open the door to talk for possible mega-fight between Mayweather, Jr. and Pacquiao? I don't think so. It is premature to say that these two top boxing promotional companies in the world are working together to make the fight that everyone loves to see.

Pacquiao had told the media several times that "He is willing to fight the undefeated American boxer anytime, anywhere." Also, he already agreed for 24-hour drug test monitoring - before, during and after the fight.

As we all want to see the best fighters fight each other, their time is up. I would say that the numbers of fans who still hope for this prizefight to happen have significantly fell down over the past years. On several occasions, we have heard boxing aficionados air their grievances and disappoinments for this supposedly biggest fight of the year.

A Fifth Bout Won't Happen Between Marquez and Pacquiao

By Alon Calinao Dy: Juan “Dinamita” Manuel Marquez (55-7-1, 40 KOs) is not going to fight Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao (55-5-2, 38 KOs) even though he will win the rematch against American Timothy Bradley.

In an interview with RingTV, Marquez said, “With Bradley, I don’t see that as a loss. It was a close fight and I thought I did enough to win. If I decided to retire right now, I would be satisfied. I always said I wanted to fight Pacquiao and beat him and I did. I do want that [welterweight] title, but I’m not obsessed with it, though it would be a great achievement.”

There are a lot of hesitations on the part of Marquez because he is thinking if he could still pull the trigger and upset the Filipino boxing superstar once more, as many believers are trying to say that Pacquiao is more focused than ever before after his knockout loss against Mexican boxer.

Until this time, he’s a very dangerous fighter to his opponents. That’s what he did to Brandon Rios last year. Perhaps, his defeat against Marquez would serve him best. He has a chance to avenge his humiliating loss, but Marquez has no interest for another bout against the Filipino boxing icon even though Bob Arum is offering him a biggest payday of his career.

Speaking about a true legacy in boxing, I don’t think Marquez is showing a good example for his fans in Mexico and around the world. Dinamita should give a second shot to Pacquiao. He should show the world that he has the heart of a lion. This only shows that he is now ducking Pacquiao if he will avoid a fifth epic battle.

Although some boxing pugilists and aficionados do not want to see this fight again, I think many people are still interested to watch the comeback of a former pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao. Diehard fans of the Filipino congressman want their idol to send Marquez into retirement just like what he did to Erik Morales, Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, and others.

Also, this fight is good for Marquez to show that his win against Pacquiao was not a “Lucky punch.” Sure, this would generate a huge revenue for both veteran boxers. This is one of the reasons why that this fifth fight needs to happen this year if Mayweather is not interested to face Pacquiao.

After a fifth fight between Marquez and Pacquiao, the Mexican fighter can retire peacefully – win or lose. I don’t think Marquez is afraid to fight Pacquiao, but he is trying to protect his boxing records. He can’t afford to lose another fight to Pacquiao. But don’t worry, there’s nothing to be feared of – especially if you lose to an all-time-great and one and only eight- division world champion Pacquiao.

Who is to blame: Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Manny Pacquiao For Fight Not Happening?

By Alon Calinao Dy: Philippine pride Manny Pacquiao called out Floyd Mayweather for a boxing showdown to finally settle who is the best fighter between them. Pacquiao, however, said Mayweather has many reasons and alibis for not taking the fight. The talks of a mega-fight between the two boxing icons have existed years ago till now. Since both parties did not agree to each other’s terms and conditions, they have decided to fight different opponents that resulted a big dismay to a lot of fans. It has been a leading talk to all boxing forums, but now it seems fans are no longer interested for this dream match.

In each passing year, people would rather spend dollars watching MMA fights than any boxing shows. They are frustrated because they don’t get the bout they want, but only promoters are the ones who decide and those who have the final say, not the fans. It’s not as exciting fight any more compared to the time of Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier, who battled for supremacy.

Boxers, nowadays, compete for the money and are no longer looking for the best fights in their careers. They have been selective for their opponents and has become sorts of good revenues for their respective promoters to have fixed fights in boxing. Sometimes, errors of decision from the judges are huge disappointment for many pugilists and aficionados – an example of this was the first meeting between Timothy Bradley and Manny Pacquiao last two years ago.

Despite what’s happening in the sport of boxing, I still believe that the biggest fight of the century is going to happen this late month of a year or early next year. For most people, that’s the only best fight left out there. And these fighters, should be grateful for the support of boxing fans around the world. It’s time to fight each other and say ‘thank you’ to all people who have believed and supported them throughout the years.

Roach doesn't want Cotto-Pacquiao Rematch

By Alon Calinao Dy: After the impressive performance of Puerto Rican boxer Miguel Cotto over former WBC champion Sergio Martinez last week at the Madison Square Garden in New York, USA, legendary trainer Freddie Roach does not see any possibilities that both his fighters Cotto and Pacquiao are going to fight for the second time, for Filipino boxing icon to win his ninth world boxing crown.

According to some reports, Top Rank Promoter Bob Arum is trying hard to persuade Mexican boxing legend Juan Manuel Marquez to fight superstar Pacquiao for a fifth time. However, fans say that Marquez is asking for $20 million, which is a huge amount of money that would eventually cut the purse of Pacquiao if he is going to agree to this demand.

But according to Pacquiao’s avid fans, this is too much for Marquez since he lost to Timothy Bradley a year ago. Furthermore, this just shows that Marquez is no longer interested for another bout against his long-time rival Pacquiao. Although Marquez always brings huge Mexican followers, Pacquiao’s camp believes that the Filipino congressman is clearly the one who brings more PPV buys than Marquez.

Therefore, Marquez should not be asking for more this time around if he really wants to face Pacquiao once again. The truth is, I still would want to see them in the ring together, because many fight fans till now are asking for this fight, as they are saying that Marquez won by chance.

Other possible opponents who are link to Pacquiao are Canelo Alvarez, Amir Khan, Floyd MayweatherJr, and Danny Garcia. But Alvarez is not going to fight Pacquiao at the catch-weight since he is naturally a bigger boxer than the Filipino fighter. Also, Khan and Mayweather are no longer available for the Filipino champ since there are reports that they might meet each other in November. This only leaves to two boxers, it is either Marquez or Garcia.

In short, it is not possible that Pacquiao and Cotto are going to fight in the future since Roach is not keen to see his two elite boxers fighting each other. Yet, the only thing I see there is a chance for Cotto-Pacquiao rematch if the Puerto Rican replaces Roach as his coach. I believe Freddie will not leave Pacquiao since the two have long-time friendship, as they treat each other like father and son.

Mayweather and Pacquiao: Let's get it on!

By Alon Calinao Dy: How far do you believe that a fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao is going to happen next year?

It may be over now if they have fought years ago, but the hype is too much already. At this moment, I don't like to talk about it because I don't see any development of the possible mega-fight.

Floyd Mayweather Jr, an American undefeated fighter, has no intention to challenge his real threat - eight-division world champ Manny Pacquiao. 

For unknown reasons,  I don't know why he can't gamble his perfect record. It doesn't matter whether a boxer has a zero loss or five defeats, just as long as he is doing his best to bring out the battle that everyone wants to see. For me, he is the true champion.

For Pacquiao and Mayweather, they have to meet in the ring in 2015. I know both camps have high egos, but it's not going to work out this way if they continue to ignore the demands of boxing fans from around the world.

So for boxing to survive in the near future, let's get it on. Let's have the biggest fight of the century. Let's see who is the greatest fighter that we all want to acknowledge or take pride when our children might ask us - who is the best?

Pacquiao-Mayweather Fight Might Stage in Dubai

By Alon Calinao Dy: Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr, two of the hottest superstars in the world of boxing, have been subjected to many criticisms by fight fans, who are desperate to see them in the ring together, because that is the only bout that matters now for them after the thriller in Manila between boxing legends Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier in 1975.

It is sad to say that boxing legend Frazier is not going to see the possible mega-fight between the undefeated Mayweather and eight-division world champion Pacquiao in one of the most developed regions in the Middle East, which is Dubai.

Last week, Promoter Prince Amir Shafipour stated his interest to stage the biggest fight of the century in Dubai. Well, I don’t mind where it will be held just as long as it is coming into reality. If Prince Amir can make it, why not? At least, the influential Prince can stage this biggest event for the love of boxing. Also, there would be no reasons why both parties would not accept Shafipour’s offer, since money and venue are no longer the problems for both parties.

Prince Shafipour is so serious about making this super fight, to the extent that he proudly announced to the world last week that he can do it. He is over confident that he has the capability to pull this off – Mayweather-Pacquiao duel. And for the rich country of Dubai, in case this bout happens, this would certainly enhance more tourism in the region aside from being written in the book of history due to Pacquiao-Mayweather showdown.

Therefore, money is no longer the issue from both promoters and fighters. The only job for these pound-for-pound boxers in the world is to face each other in the ring with no excuses. They can earn more than millions of Dollars in Dubai than they can earn in Las Vegas or Texas. Dubai is a tax-free country. I am sure that both boxers will happily earn millions of Dirhams if they put a terrific show in Dubai.
